MSc Hannie van Genderen

Hannie van Genderen is a clinical psychologist/psychotherapist and supervisor, learning therapist, and trainer in cognitive behavioral therapy and schema therapy. From 2000 to 2022, she was also the owner of Van Genderen Opleidingen. From 1987 to 2017, she was involved in scientific research at Maastricht University in the field of treating a wide range of mental disorders, working closely with Prof. Arnoud Arntz and other researchers. From the very beginning in 1996, she has been involved in the introduction of schema therapy for personality disorders in the Netherlands, trained by J. Young, A. Beck, and C. Padesky. She completed the Schema-Focused Group Therapy training at Farrell & Shaw.
Hannie was one of the founders of the Association for Schema Therapy and the ISST (International Society of Schema Therapy) and has held administrative positions in both organizations.

Education

She has taught cognitive behavioral therapy for 30 years and, since 1999, has mainly taught courses in schema therapy. In addition to organizing her own schema therapy courses, she has helped shape various training programs (such as psychotherapy, mental health psychologist, and clinical psychologist) for nearly 30 years and coordinated parts of these programs at RINO Zuid. For many years, she has also given various workshops and training courses in a number of European countries (including Aarhus, Berlin, Freiburg, Geneva, Mainz, Oxford, Warsaw, and Zurich) and beyond, such as in New York and Moscow.

Publications and conference contributions

After contributing numerous chapters to various handbooks on Schema Therapy, her first book, Schematherapie bij Borderline-Persoonlijkheidsstoornis (Schema Therapy for Borderline Personality Disorder), was published in 2005 in collaboration with Prof. A. Artnz. This book has since been translated into seven other languages.
In 2012, her second book, ‘Breaking Negative Thinking Patterns’ (together with G. Jacob and L. Seebauer), was published. This book has already been published in six languages.
